Hugo Svedberg, born 2008 in London, began taking cello lessons at the age of six and currently studies with Adrian Brendel.
In 2024, Hugo won 1st Prize in Sweden’s national ‘Polstjärnepriset’ competition, performing solo with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and subsequently represented Sweden in the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition, winning the 2nd Prize performing with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
Hugo performed solo with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock at the 2023 Festspiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern and his recitals as part of the BBC Young Musician 2024 have been broadcast on BBC4 television and BBC Radio 3.
Hugo has attended masterclasses with Kian Soltani, Johannes Moser, Maximilian Hornung and Torlief Thedeėn. He is part of the Voksenåsen Talent Program and is attending the 2025 Gstaad String Academy, studying with Ivan Monighetti. Hugo is a scholarship holder of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities held there.
In 2025, Hugo makes his debut as soloist with orchestras including the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Västerås Sinfonietta, Jönköpings Sinfonietta, Musica Vitae and the London Mozart Players. In September he will perform at the opening ceremony of the Swedish Parliament as soloist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic.
