Sadao Harada is one of Japan's most distinguished cellists, internationally acclaimed as a founding member of the legendary Tokyo String Quartet. After studying at the Toho School of Music with Hideo Saito, he became the youngest principal cellist of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra before continuing his studies at the Juilliard School in New York.

In 1969, Harada co-founded the Tokyo String Quartet, serving as its cellist for three decades and helping establish the ensemble as one of the world's leading string quartets through acclaimed performances and award-winning recordings. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has collaborated with renowned artists including Pinchas Zukerman, Jessye Norman, and the Alban Berg Quartet, and has appeared with leading orchestras such as the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the New Japan Philharmonic under Seiji Ozawa.

Alongside his distinguished performing career, Harada is a highly respected teacher and chamber music coach. He has served as Professor at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in Germany and continues to mentor young musicians through international festivals, masterclasses, and educational programs.
