World premiere recording of Mozart’s serenade “Ganz kleine Nachtmusik” — with Stretton-supported artists Leonhard Baumgartner and Margarita Pochebut

The rediscovery of an early work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in September 2024, attracting much attention in the world of classical music, was a sensation. The Serenade in C, Köchelverzeichnis 648, for two violins and bass is a previously unknown piece of music by the composer. Two exceptional talents sponsored by Stretton, Leonhard Baumgartner and Margarita Pochebut, have been allowed to record this professional world premiere recording exclusively for Deutsche Grammophon.

Together with Svenja Dose (double bass) and Oscar Jockel (harpsichord), Leonhard and Margarita performed the piece in September 2024 in the Vienna Hall of the International Mozarteum Foundation. Parallel to the audio recording, Deutsche Grammophon also produced a video.

Background information:
The Serenade was discovered by researchers from the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg in the Carl Ferdinand Becker Collection of the Music Library of the Leipzig Municipal Libraries, while they were working on the new edition of the Köchelverzeichnis, the reference work on Mozart’s musical oeuvre.

Mozart wrote the piece, which consists of seven miniature movements for string trio, in his early youth, probably in the mid to late 1760s. On September 19, 2024, the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg, which researches and preserves Mozart’s cultural heritage under the direction of Dr. Ulrich Leisinger, presented the piece to the world public.
